Transfers within systems
- About the same number of students transfer from the University
of Wisconsin (UW) System to the Wisconsin Technical College
System (WTCS) as transfer from the WTCS to the UW System (3,091
vs. 3,052 in 2001-02 school year).
- Transfer of students from the WTCS into the UW System is on a steady increase
(1% increase in share of new transfers into UW System in last five years).
- Students age 20 to 24 - those who are in the traditional college age group - make
up nearly 45% of the WTCS transfers from the UW System; another 20% were less than
30 years old; these transfers appear to be young adults who have decided that an
occupationally focused degree might be more relevant to their career plans than a
baccalaureate.
- About one-quarter of the students transferring from the UW System to the WTCS
already have a baccalaureate degree.
News on transfer agreements
A new type of “graduate” degree
Over 10,000 people who hold bachelor’s degrees from four-year
colleges and universities are enrolled in programs at the
16 Wisconsin technical colleges and over 35,000 people
with bachelor’s degrees are taking individual courses at the
colleges.
Higher earnings
A recently conducted Florida study showed that new four-year
graduates who also hold an associate’s degree earned over $2,000
a year more, on average, than students who had taken the traditional
four-year college track.
Graduation success
Studies by the American Association of Community Colleges show students transferring
from a community college to a four-year university are more likely to earn a bachelor’s
degree than students who begin their education at the four-year university – because
of the high drop out rate of freshmen at the four-year university.
Fully accredited
North Central Association of Colleges and Schools accredit all
Wisconsin technical colleges. That’s the same authority that
accredits the UW System schools.
